Assistant/Associate Professor of Cell Biology & Genetics

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

Serves the Proposed SHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine (applicant status seeking accreditation) by planning, organizing, and teaching genetics/cell biology sessions in collaboration with other faculty teaching in the listed disciplines. Collaborates with other basic science and clinical faculty to create highly integrated curriculum and instructional materials and collaborates with administrators, staff, students, regulatory agencies, and members of the community to develop, implement, and sustain medical education programs throughout four years.

Duties of the position will include, but are not limited to teaching clinically relevant genetics or cell biology, scientific method and research methodology, to participating in curriculum development and implementation; serving as an academic advisor to assigned students; holding membership on COM and University committees; participation in the interview and selection process of COM students.

Educational Requirements for the Position

A PhD in biochemistry, molecular/cell biology or genetics, from an accredited institution of higher education.

Experience Required for the Position

This position requires at least three to five years of experience in teaching Genetics/Cell biology and a record of accomplishments in the field of medical education.

Experience using different teaching methods which might include case-based learning, ‘flipped classroom’, problem-based learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems, curriculum delivery systems (e.g. Canvas or Blackboard), and proficiency in exam item (COMLEX and/or USMLE) writing. Experience with curricular and instructional design.
