We are seeking an experienced Analytical Chemistry Scientist to support drug discovery and development in Small Molecule Discovery Chemistry at Genentech. This person will join a high energy team that is responsible for all aspects of small molecule analysis including LCMS, GCMS, NMR, and high throughput physical property screening. The successful candidate will work in the lab to support all aspects of drug discovery research including in-house synthesized compound registration, structure elucidation, synthetic chemistry troubleshooting, and high throughput physical property screening. This individual will be expected to develop analytical methods, document studies in notebooks, summarize and interpret data, troubleshoot instrument and method problems, interact with chemists to help support their projects and present findings at meetings. This individual will also be expected to carry out novel research that directly impacts our drug discovery efforts, regularly publish in peer reviewed journals, and present their work at conferences.
Who You Are
Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry with at least 2 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry or a M.S. degree in Chemistry with at least 7 years of relevant experience. Candidates must have a strong theoretical knowledge of analytical chemistry, working knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, and hands on experience in chromatography (HPLC), mass spectrometry (LCMS), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Strong preference will be given to candidates with multiple years of prior pharmaceutical lab experience in LCMS and NMR analysis of small molecules. The successful candidate will have excellent instrumentation skills, computer skills, communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills.
